TOWARDS THE EFFECTIVE USE OF ONTOLOGIES IN COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
Introduction Go to top
The objective of this project is the definition of procedures and mechanisms to use ontologies more effectively in real applications. We say that an ontology is used in efficiently for one application when, thanks to its use, the application behaves more intelligently, therefore, increasing its efficiency or providing more functionalities. In this work, it will be studied how to use ontologies effectively in all their possible stages, which are: the identification of the ontologies potentially relevant for a given domain, the reuse of the relevant ontologies found, the creation of new ontologies using previous knowledge (or ontologies) as a basis, and the use of ontologies effectively. In this work we study the use of ontologies in the fields of software engineering, eLearning, bioinformatics, web 2.0 and geographic information systems.
