Fellows Program

Call for Applications to the Research Fellows Program at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute of the Open University of Catalonia, in Barcelona. 

The Open University of Catalonia (UOC) is a 100% Internet-based, fully accredited University operating from Barcelona and serving over 40,000 students worldwide, including a selective group of students enrolled in a PhD Program on the Information and Knowledge Society. The Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) is the research institute of the UOC and conducts frontier research on the interaction between information and communication technologies, society, economy, and culture. The IN3 is located in Barcelona and is led by Professor Manuel Castells, jointly with a distinguished faculty.

The IN3 is offering Senior Research Fellowship positions for outstanding researchers from around the world to spend periods between 3 and 12 months at the Institute in Barcelona, to work on their research interests and to interact with the researchers and doctoral students of the IN3. In 2009 the call refers specifically to researchers focusing on the field of empirical research on Social Media / Online Communities. Priority will be given to those applicants connecting research and innovation. The working language of the Institute is English. Fellowships are limited and granted on a competitive basis. Interested applicants should first contact by email (fellows_in3@uoc.edu) to receive information on the application procedure and conditions offered by the fellowship, including compensation. The call will be open until November 15th 2009, and will refer to the calendar year 2010.

The successful candidatures are subject to the Terms and conditions of the selection process for the 2010  IN3 Research Fellows Program .

In its assessment of applications, the IN3 Management, in accordance with the terms and conditions established for the selection process, took into account the following criteria:

* Academic, research and professional achievements, and an outstanding track record in research

*  Suitability and potential of the proposed research project

*  Potential and projection of the foreign institutions and universities in which the candidates work or teach.

*  Potential to establish collaborating projects between the IN3 and theses institutions and universities
