Research activities at the IN3 are carried out:
a) through the individual activities of the UOC's professors and researchers.
b) through the Research Groups, made up of professors, PhD interns and research assistants who have been rewarded internally via a periodic accreditation process.
c) through New Research Programmes, created recently with the aim of developing research activity in areas that, to date, have not been subject to analysis at the IN3, but which are of particular social and scientific importance.
Likewise, the IN3 develops interdisciplinary projects involving researchers from different research groups. The most important of these projects is Project Internet Catalonia (PIC), which started in 2001, led by professors Manuel Castells and Imma Tubella, with the aim of exploring the characteristics and development of the information society in Catalonia.
