Risk Negotiation research programme. NEGRISC

In the Risk Negotiation research programme (NEGRISC) we offer the following PhD place.

"Models of Risk governance"

Thesis supervisor: Dr Anna Garcia Hom

Description of the line of research
The doctoral research will be developed within the NEGRISC research programme which is centred fundamentally on the analysis of factors that intervene in the construction/ configuration of the social perception of risk preferably in the field of emerging technologies. The research project has to be directed towards analysing these processes and elaborating models of risk governance that overcome the controversial phenomena or social conflict with which it is associated.

In the complex sphere of socio-technical interrelations, risk management is an act of negotiation, where the need to apply mechanisms and devices of resolution and social consensus - to facilitate and integrate plurality in terms of new technologies and their effects on social organisation – becomes highlighted. Changing dynamics, as are the effects of technologies in society, and social responses to these technologies, means that management needs to be associated with tools and procedures to reflect the multidisciplinary and multidimensional reality of our socio-technical societies. NEGRISC aims to carry out research that reflects the multidisciplinary nature of using and disseminating technologies in our societies.

Academic profile
The profile of those wishing to apply has to be preferably sociology, law, anthropology, psychology or philosophy. Knowledge and use of applied quantitative and qualitative analysis in social science research would be valued positively.
