Data Confidentiality Policy

Through this notice, the Fundació per a la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya - hereinafter the FUOC -, with registered offices at Avinguda Tibidabo, 39-43 (08035-Barcelona), informs the users of this website of its personal data protection policy.

Use of the FUOC's website and any of the services it offers implies the full acceptance of the conditions stipulated by the following Privacy Policy.

1. Data collected

In accordance with Law 15/1999, December 13, on Personal Data Protection, we herein inform users that the personal data requested in our forms is included in a personal data file for which the FUOC is the owner and responsible. Thus, when filling in any of the forms with the personal data requested and accepting its being sent, the user expressly authorises the FUOC to handle or incorporate this personal data provided in the aforementioned form in the automated file it owns, as well as any data generated from the user's participation and/or use of the different products and/or services offered on this website.

Unless specifically stipulated otherwise, all the fields in each form must be filled in and the user must fill these forms with information which is true, accurate, complete and up-to-date. The user is solely responsible for any direct or indirect damage or prejudice that could be caused to the FUOC or any other third party due to the forms being filled in with information that was false, inaccurate, incomplete or not up-to-date and/or information belonging to third parties.

Users can obtain information, make consultations and participate in the all the teaching and institutional activities that the FUOC offers over the website through its different areas.

2. Uses

The data provided shall never be used for any use other than that for which it has been ceded, being immediately cancelled once it is no longer necessary for said end, unless the law stipulates otherwise.

When the interested party sends their personal details and email address to the FUOC, they expressly authorise their use for periodical communications, expressly including those carried out using email by the FUOC, or other organisations linked to the FUOC's academic field, for students, former students and those possibly interested, informing them of activities or news, courses, programmes, etc., as well as any offers of services and products related to the institutional activities developed.

Aside from the above, the automatic collection and processing of the personal data provided is also used for administrative management, as well as the implementation and development of all the FUOC's teaching and/or institutional activities, and user management for the different services offered (including, but not limited to: requesting information about qualifications and postgraduate studies, participating in selection processes, applying to the UOC, subscribing to the different electronic journals and publications accessible over the website, etc.).

3. Security

All information relating to personal data received by the FUOC is handled with the utmost confidentiality, with only that communication strictly necessary to provide the service in each case, alongside any communication and cession authorised by the user through this Privacy Policy.

The FUOC has taken those security measures legally required for the protection of personal data and installed the technical means and measures available to avoid loss, misuse, alteration of and unauthorised access to the personal data provided.

The user has the right to access the information concerning them held in the FUOC's files, to rectify that which is erroneous, cancel it or oppose its being used by email, fuoc_pd@uoc.edu, or in writing, (signed and enclosing a copy of ID) to the party responsible for the file, ie the FUOC, with registered offices at Avinguda Tibidabo, 39-43 (08035-Barcelona).

4. Cession of data

The user accepts that their details may be ceded exclusively for those ends described above to FUOC-participated organisations. The user's acceptance of their details being handled or ceded in the way stipulated herein can always be revoked, without retroactive effects, in accordance with that stipulated in articles 6 and 11 of Organic Law 15/1999, December 13.

5. Cookies

The FUOC communicates to users, through this notice, that it uses cookies when the user accesses the different screens and pages that make up the site. The cookies used by the FUOC are stored on the user's hard drive, but cannot read data contained thereon nor read the cookies created by other providers. The FUOC uses cookies in order to recognise users who have registered and so as to offer them a better, more personalised service (the user's preferred language, etc.). They are also used to obtain completely anonymous information about access data (date, hour, minute, frequency, etc.), so as to be able to measure certain traffic parameters for the website itself and estimate the number of visits made, so that the FUOC can focus and adjust the services offered most effectively. Despite this, the user may stop the generation of cookies by using the corresponding option offered by their browser. In this case, the website shall remain operative, but without the advantages offered for personalisation.

6. Modification of this Privacy Policy

The FUOC reserves the right to modify its data protection policy in accordance with its own criteria or due to a change in the legislation, jurisprudence or business practices. If the FUOC introduces any change, the new text shall be published on this same page, where the user is provided with information on the data protection policy. In any case, relations with users shall be governed by the regulations in force at the precise moment when they access the website.
